Abstract
The incidence of dental caries in the world is very high, including children. This study aims to determine the relationship and diet with dental caries in elementary school age children at SD IT Amanah, Sungai Bungkal District, Sungai Penuh City. The design used cross sectional with a sample of 47 people. The results showed that 55.3% of respondents experienced dental caries, 61.7% of respondents had a low level of knowledge, and 66.0% of respondents experienced poor eating patterns. The statistical test of knowledge with the incidence of dental caries (p value = 0.000 < 0.05) and the relationship between diet and the incidence of dental caries (p value = 0.038 < 0.05). It concluded that there is a relationship between knowledge and eating patterns with the incidence of dental caries in school-age children. It is hoped that health workers will be able to carry out health promotion about dental caries.
