Abstract

Stem cell therapies are envisioned for severe neurologic disorders and intractable epilepsy. Methods to maintain and derive neural cells from embryonic stem cells (ESCs) and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) are providing insights into human nervous system development from stem cells and the future of stem cell therapy for epilepsy. For an expanded treatment of this topic see Jasper's basic mechanisms of the epilepsies. 4th ed.
