Abstract
This book examines the importance of red alder (Alnus rubra) in the Pacific Northwest. In addition to an introduction and a conclusion by the editors, there are 17 chapters by various contributors, covering the biology of red alder, root symbioses, effect of red alder on soil productivity, nitrogen fixation, physiology, genetics, stand development, increment, wildlife, site class assessment, seed biology and ecology, nursery practices, plantation establishment, management of young stands, fertilizers and nutrition, growth and yield, and wood quality and product yield.
