Abstract
The incorporation of tin in the structure of mesoporous silicas has been the focus of many studies, mainly for its application as heterogeneous catalysts, due to the acidity given to the system. Thus, promising catalytic activities and selectivities are obtained for a wide range of applications. Stanosilicates were initially used as catalysts in Bayer-Villiger oxidation and Meerwein-Pondorf-Verley (MPV) reactions and, more recently, have been widely applied in carbohydrate conversion reactions to platform and commodity chemicals. An important characteristic of these materials is their robustness, which makes them applicable to various reactions in liquid phase, such as in aqueous systems. Thus, this study presents an overview of the literature on the synthesis of stannosilicates, addressing its development, the main characterization techniques and the state of the art regarding industrial development through patents.
