Abstract

A brief statement from Garn about the nutritional value of cannibalism. A 50 kg man would yield about 4.5 kg of protein, or 4.0 kg of protein assuming 90% digestibility. This would provide 1-days protein requirement for 60 60-kg people, but not well. Reducing this to one man per week, this would barely amoung to 9 g quality protein per day, which could be seen as a supplemental source, but would not appear to be nutritionally worthwhile. People may serve as an emergency sources of both protein and calories, but probably didn't have real nutritional meaning.
