Bienestar animal en el proyecto avícola de la Universidad Francisco de Paula Santander Ocaña

Abstract

Producers are increasingly aware of the importance of proper management of animals to promote health, reproduction and production, so now seeks the valuation of animal welfare in production systems (SP) as a point of measurement of the level of management. The level of animal welfare is altered by elements that expose physical and mental health, influencing the satisfaction of the individuals involved. The intention of the study is the evaluation of the level of animal welfare in the production system of birds of postures of the line Backoc Brown of the University Francisco de Paula Santander Ocaña (UFPSO), applying the protocol Welfare Quality®(WQ), through a descriptive methodology with mixed approach, where the qualitative component was integrated by data of direct exploration with the animals, and the quantitative component by measuring the four (4) parameters of the Welfare Quality® protocol (Food, Housing, Good Health and Behavior), ten (10) criteria and twenty (20) complementary indicators among them, in a group off our thousand twenty-four (4024) laying birds of thirty-seven (37) week of life. The results of the measurement determined the evaluation of animal welfare as excellent, since the score in all parameters was greater than 80%, presenting compliance percentages of 89.5% in feeding, 91.3% in housing, 95.72% good health and 87.5% appropriate behavior, with total score (91.01%).Los productores son cada vez más conscientes de la importancia del manejo adecuado de los animales favoreciendo sanidad, reproducción y producción, por ello actualmente se busca la valoración del bienestar animal en los sistemas de producción (SP) como punto de medición del nivel de manejo. El nivel de bienestar animal se altera por elementos que exponen la salud física y psíquica, influyendo en la satisfacción propia de los individuos involucrados. La intención del estudio es la evaluación del nivel de bienestar animal en el sistema de producción aves de posturas de la línea Backoc Brown de la Universidad Francisco de Paula Santander Ocaña (UFPSO), aplicando el protocolo Welfare Quality®, a través de una metodología descriptiva con enfoque mixto, donde el componente cualitativo estuvo integrado por datos de exploración directa con los animales, y el componente cuantitativo por la medición de los cuatro (4) parámetros del protocolo Welfare Quality® (Alimentación, Alojamiento, Buena Salud y Comportamiento), diez (10) criterios y veinte (20) indicadores complementarios entre sí, en un grupo de cuatro mil veinticuatro (4024) aves de postura de treinta y siete (37) semana de vida. Los resultados de la medición determinaron la valoración del bienestar animal como excelente, ya que el puntaje en todos los parámetros fue mayor de 80%, presentando porcentajes de cumplimento de 89.5% en alimentación, 91.3% en alojamiento, 95.72% buena salud y 87,5% comportamiento apropiado, con calificación total (91.01%).
