Abstract

Smart grid puts forward new requirements in the planning, operation and management of power systems. Conventional analysis and control methods with rigid constraints can hardly meet the requirements of flexibility in smart grids. This paper introduces the main existing flexible analysis and control methods in power systems, including flexible alternating current transmission system (FACTS), flexible power network planning, power system operation flexibility evaluation, and demand side management (DSM). Finally, some conclusions are made and further possible applications of flexible analysis and control methods in smart grids are prospected.
