Abstract

Numerous investigations have studied the relationships between drug use and the personal, family and social resources of adolescents. The relationships found are significant, in the sense that the more resources adolescents have, the lower the consumption of drugs. Objective. This study aims to deepen the study of psychosocial adjustment in adolescence and its implications in drug use, for this the protective nature of personal resources and family and social context is analyzed. Method. The sample consisted of 532 adolescents, 266 adolescents who used drugs and 266 adolescents who did not use drugs. Results. Teenagers who do not use drugs have more personal resources and better psychosocial adjustment, and show greater stability in their relationships with their family, since they communicate openly with their fathers and mothers, and perceive their families together and affectionate. In addition, at the social level, they show higher levels of adaptation and adequate integration and community participation. Conclusions.The psychosocial adjustment and mental health of adolescents is affected depending on drug use.
