Abstract

Besides the frequently studied rhetorical patterns, the use of support and the presentation of personal voice in particular reflect the underlying social and cultural ideologies of Chinese learners. In a culture of observation, memorization, and illustration, the purpose of Chinese argumentative writing is to "tell" the reader rather than "showing" to the reader.
