The purpose of this study is to propose a tool to measure the creation of value within a university, based on an adaptation of the traditional EVA methodology (Economic Value Added of Stern, Stewart & Co.). To this end, the technique has been implemented in a traditional Chilean university. Estimates of creation of social value were obtained for each of the academic units, and for every dimension. For this, it was necessary to make some adjustments regarding the standard formulation of EVA. Since this is a proposal, new studies may suggest other estimation schemes in order to valuate more complex dimensions. The main contribution of the article is that provides a novel framework for improving university management, teaching, research and extension. In addition, the paper provides an actual illustration of the method.
