Abstract

This paper discusses about painting henna on bride’s and groom’s hands and feet as a condition of wedding ceremony in the process of marriage in the village of Kuta Tinggi Aceh. Based on a fieldwork research, it has been discovered that the henna painting is a tradition of the village for the bride and groom to apply. It aims to give physical identity of the bride and groom as new couples of marriage. Various shapes and motifs of the painting give particular symbols indicating the members of community involved in the wedding ceremony. For the bride and groom, it indicates commitement of this new couple of marriage to build a new family with full responsibilities.
