Abstract

Kant was a deontologist46 who believed in absolute rights and wrongs that are determined by way of reason, for example the only rational thing to do in a situation in which one has a choice, is to follow the call of duty without reference to the result or outcome.47 The greatest weakness of Kant's theory is that rights and duties can conflict,48 and there is no indication of the manner in which the call of duty in opposite directions is to be understood. 3.1 The four pillars of bioethics
