Abstract
The article reports on the criticisms of the decision of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega to start the construction of Grand Canal which links the Caribbean and Pacific coasts with a waterway. Topics noted include the scientists' call for independent environmental and social impact assessment, possible impacts of the Canal on Lake Nicaragua, and environmental concerns regarding the creation of an artificial lake near the Canal.
