Endolymphatic sac tumor; a case report

Abstract

Aggressive papillary tumors of the temporal bone have been shown to originate within the endolymphatic sac. A 38-year-old woman had right facial nerve palsy and sensorineural hearing loss. Imaging examinations showed a tumor, with extensive bony destruction located in the temporal bone. The tumor was removed by a combination of lateral trans-suboccipital and trans-mastoid approaches. Histological examinations showed a papillary adenoma and immunohistochemical studies revealed the coexistence of keratin and vimentin within the tumor cells. From the above findings and clinical evidence, we concluded that this tumor originated from the endolymphatic sac.
