Abstract
A copolymer of vinyl carbazole with methoxy ethyl methacrylate [Poly (VK-co-MEM)] was prepared by free radical solution polymerization. The copolymer was reinforced with two different nanofillers namely CaCO3 and graphene by solution blending technique. The resultant polymer nanocomposites were characterized by Fourier Transform Infra-Red Spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) studies. The SEM micrographs of polymer and its nanocomposites were taken to observe the morphological changes. The IDT of the polymer and its nanocomposites were calculated using Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA). The optical characteristic of the synthesized polymer and its nanocomposites were assessed using UV–Vis spectroscopy. The anticorrosive property of [Poly (VK-co-MEM)] and its nanocomposite coated on mild steel (MS) in 3.5% (w/v) NaCl were carried out using Potentiodynamic Polarization and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). The results show the prepared material has better protection against corrosion.
