Abstract

Moult of body feathers was found to occur in the population of Siskins throughout the period November to April in a wintering area in NE Spain. Body feather moult occurred in both sexes, in adults and first-year birds, and was particularly apparent in early spring. This probably reflected an adaptive opportunistic moult strategy. © 1988 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
