Abstract

Steroid-induced dermatitis (SID) and steroid-induced acne (SIA) were surveyed in the records of patients who newly visited the Dermatology Clinic of Osaka University Hospital between 1979 and 1984, In spite of a caution against such disorders proposed in the preceding years, annual numbers and incidencies of steroid-induced dermatosis including SID and SIA during the period were 30, 26, 31, 30 and 45, and 0. 63, 0,54, 0.64, 0.63 and 0.98%, respectively, and did not seem to decrease. The number and incidence of steroid-induced dermatosis in 1984 were even one and a half higher than those in the previous years. Topical corticoid preparations, recently Marketed, had increasing share of causative drugs responsible for steroid-induced dermatosis. We proposed a policy to reduce the incidence of steroid-induced dermatosis. The upper range of age distribution of patients suffering from acne vulgaris, which was studied as control in this paper, was found to reach to the sixth decade. © 1985, Meeting of Osaka Dermatological Association.
