Current research in social psychology in the US shows a high degree of methodological sophistication, but is deficient in its theoretical aspects; it is primarily focused on individual psychological processes to the neglect of group and social processes. The "crisis" of social psychology is due to its position at the interface of individual and social phenomena, and the current call for relevance will probably result in increased emphasis on the social aspect of the field.
