Abstract

Red kalalawit bajakah root (Uncaria gambir Roxb) is a plant known to contain alkaloids, phenols and triterpenoids which are used to treat cancer, tumors, wounds, premature aging, diabetes and antioxidants. Antioxidants are compounds that have a molecular structure that can provide electrons to unstable free radical molecules without being disturbed at all so that they can break free radical chain reactions. The aim of this research was to determine the antioxidant activity of the ethanol extract of red bajakah kalalawit (Uncaria gambir Roxb) roots using the FRAP method, based on the sample's ability to reduce Fe3+ ions to Fe2+. Qualitative test results show that the roots of red bajakah kalalawit (Uncaria gambir Roxb) contain alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolics and tannins. The quantitative test results showed that the average antioxidant activity value of the ethanol extract of red bajakah kalalawit (Uncaria gambir Roxb) root was 193.403 mg QE/g extract.
