This paper presents a study, which estimates sugarcane bagasse potential as feedstock for the production of fuel gases that can be used for power generation. Chemical equilibrium was used to estimate the species (gases) produced by gasification, under adiabatic conditions, using different amounts of air-steam mixtures for partial oxidation. The software CEA (Chemical Equilibrium with Applications) was used to estimate the composition of about 150 species; only significant species are reported here. The parameters investigated were equivalence ratio defined as the stoichiometric air/air supplied to the reactor (1-4.5) and the steam to fuel ratio (0.1-0.7 kmol of steam/kmol of fuel). For the studied conditions, the composition of the gases were: CO(8% - 29,3%), N2 (26,5% - 57.9%), H2(3,6% - 29,3%), CH4(0-0,012), H2O(0,038-0,235). Heating value and energy conversion efficiency were calculated together with the composition of the gases. (English) [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
