Sexualidade e deficiência mental: revisando pesquisas

Abstract

A reunião de dados referentes à sexualidade das pessoas portadoras de deficiência mental tem sido largamente ignorada na realidade brasileira. Este artigo tem como propósito realizar uma revisão das pesquisas publicadas sobre os temas acima referidos desde o ano de 1971 até o presente momento. Procura, também, verificar a existência de instrumentos fidedignos e validados para avaliar a sexualidade nesta clientela. Nesta análise constatou-se: a presença de um pequeno número de pesquisas relacionando os temas; a falta de instrumentos brasileiros para investigar a área; a existência, na realidade estrangeira, da Escala para pessoas portadoras de deficiência mental: Sexualidade: Conhecimento, Experiência e Necessidades (SEX KEN ID). Nas pesquisas percebe-se que os portadores possuem pouco conhecimento e experiência sexual; tanto pais como profissionais não lhes fornecem a educação sexual. Conclui-se que se faz necessário adaptar instrumentos visando conhecer a realidade e deste ponto desenvolver programas de educação sexual.Gathering data regarding the sexuality of people who have mental retardation has been an area largely ignored in the Brazilian reality. This article aims to review published research about this theme from 1971 to this day. It also aims to verify the existence of accurate and valid instruments to judge the sexuality of this group. In this analysis it was found: the presence of a small number of articles in this theme; the lack of instruments to investigate the area; and the existence, in the foreign reality, of the Scale to People With Intellectual Disability: Sexuality, Knowledge, Experience and Needs (SEX KEN ID). In the research analyzed we concluded: the people who have mental retardation have few knowledge and sexual experience; neither parents or professionals provide them sexual education. We further concluded that it is necessary to adapt instruments that aim to explore the reality and from there develop sexual education programs.
