Abstract
We propose an approach to control and monitor electrical appliances in our homes using IoT. The system will make use of a Raspberry Pi (RPi) that will act as a web server (that will host our web pages) and as an MQTT broker. Microcontrollers which will reside behind the switchboards will be used to send and receive MQTT commands for turning appliances on/off. The user interface will support both mobile phones/desktop appliances. The system will provide both online and offline controlling capabilities to the user to control his/her house. Online capabilities will be achieved using a variant of Local Tunneling that will help the user to control his/her house from anywhere in the world.
