Abstract
Dow used a quality circle of experienced engineers to investigate reducing the time taken for routine maintenance and fault solving at its latex plant in King's Lynn. The circle recommended changes to valve monitoring and control systems. Quantum monitoring and control units from Westlock Controls were fitted. Dow requirements for the Quantum were that it should have one electrical circuit, the solenoid should be IS rated, the unit should run straight from the control room computer system, it should be loop-free, and it should have a Cv sufficient to ensure quick valve-closure for a variety of actuator sizes.
