Highlights Highly sensitive and selective standoff mid-IR system for plastic recognition. Promising solution for characterizing plastic wastes accurately. Established database of IR spectra for different plastics. Achieving 100% classification accuracy with machine learning. Identifies plastics with additives, contaminants, and black pigmentation.
