Abstract

The author emphasizes the need for the field of island studies to reappraise its rationale in order to retain relevance as a field and to also be relevant to other disciplines, communities and broader debates with topics covered such as the issue of islands and islandness from a socio-cultural viewpoint, the emergence of the concept of island geography and insular biogeography, and the imagination of island insularity and autonomy.
