Abstract
The principles of the electron impact methods Electron Energy Loss (EEL) spectroscopy, Electron Transmission (ET) spectroscopy, measurement of Energy-Dependence (ED) of vibrational excitation, and Dissociative Attachment (DA) spectroscopy are briefly introduced. The possibilities of modern instrumentation are illustrated with the examples of molecular oxygen and 1,3-butadiene. The following subjects of current interest are then discussed: (i) Triplet states and electron affinities of saturated hydrocarbons, including aliphatic hydrocarbons and compounds with increasing degree of strain, cyclopropane and (l.l.l)propellane. (ii) Dissociative attachment experiments on dihalosubstitued toluenes providing insight into factors determining the rate of intramolecular charge-transfer in the gas phase. © 1995 IUPAC
