Objective. The aim of the study was to characterize the profile of patients with stroke admitted via the Sistema {{}{Ú}{}}nico de Sa{{}{ú}{}}de (SUS) in medium size hospital in the Valley Taquari/RS from 2010 to 2013. Method. Causal research, quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional census, conducted by collecting data from records of admissions for stroke, considering the type, main diseases associated, age distribution, clinical manifestations, and hospitalization time. For statistical analysis, Spearman correlation and the Chi-square test was used. Results. Was identified 125 patients with a diagnosis of stroke, of which 6.4{{}{%}{}} with Transient Ischemic Attack, Ischemic Stroke with 78.4{{}{%}{}} and 15.2{{}{%}{}} with Hemorrhagic Stroke, with 50.4{{}{%}{}} female and 49.6{{}{%}{}} of males. Among the major diseases associated highlight Hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus, and Congestive Heart Failure. Conclusion. We observed a higher incidence of stroke, being the main driving sequel left hemiplegia, with no difference of sex of affected patients.
