Abstract

Abstract With the high popularity of sport participation in high school, the controversy over the effect of athletic participation on academic achievement continues to linger. There is research evidence to show positive correlations between high school athletic participation and academic performance; however, there still seems to be a stigma attached to student-athletes and treatment of student-athletes by some teachers. The purpose of this case study was to examine teacher attitudes toward student-athletes, perceptions of sport and academic performance, and academic support programs for student-athletes at the high school level.
