Abstract

This paper presents an analysis for the case of Colombia on the relationship between economic growth, energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions using the vector autoregressive (VAR) methodology and the Granger causality test, with which it was intended to find evidence of a causal relationship between the variables for the period 1971-2014. It is concluded, like the existing academic literature, that there is a direct relationship between energy consumption and production, and energy consumption towards carbon dioxide emissions. Article derived from an undergraduate thesis carried out at the Universidad Industrial de Santander entitled: "Relación del consumo de energía eléctrica, el crecimiento económico y las emisiones de dióxido de carbono en Colombia para el periodo 1971-2014".
