Abstract

The seven-qira'at schools of the Qur'an emerged after Ibn Mujahid (d.324/936) delimited the number of agreeable qira'ats into seven. This school remained at the forefront rather under favour of the works by the scholars of al-Andalus. Abu 'Amr al-Dani's (d.444/1053) al-Taysir fi al-Qira'at al-Sab' is the primary work that reflects Andalusian accumulation in terms of qira'at. Then al-Qasim b. Firruh al-Shatibi (d.590/1194) versified the work under the title Hirz al-Amani wa Wajh al-Tahani. We focused here on the adventure of the history of recitation rather than on a methodological analysis. In doing so, we fixed main reasons why Hirz al-Amani has been preferred in general throughout history in instruction field and also why it has not been made use of in qira'at in our country, Turkey, from the nineteenth century. Thus, we aimed to question the extent to which the recitation instruction in Turkey is nowadays fruitful.
