Abstract
A case of intussusception in adult caused by a caecum carcinoma with mesenterium ileocecale commune was reported. A 72-year-old female was admitted to our hospital due to diarrhea and abdominal pain. Marked abdominal distention was found, and plain abdominal X-ray indicated multiple Niveau formation. A long tube was inserted to the sigmoid. Intussusception of transverse colon was diagnosed by using gastrographin from a long tube. Endoscopic study revealed an intussusception caused by caecum carcinoma. Right hemicolectomy with lymph node dissection was performed. Upon laparotomy it was found that the colocolic intussusception was caused by caecum carcinoma and the caecum up to the hepatic flexure of the ascending colon was not fixed to the retroperitonium. Histologically, the caecum carcinoma was a moderatel differentiated adenocarcinoma, while lymph nodal involvement was not found. Intussusceptions of the colon in adult are frequently found in the ileocecal portion or sigmoidal colon but rarely in the transverse colon. Only one case of adult intussusception of the transverse colon complicated with mesenterium ileocecal commune has been reported.
