Abstract

When we heard about the opportunity to participate in the production of an issue of The Biochemist magazine, it appealed strongly to our individual interests and wejumped on it. Kene is interested in science education, and both Dharia and Lena feel strongly about public science outreach. Something we certainly all agree on is that the research that goes on inside the so-called Ivory Tower of Academic Science should be made accessible to the people who may support and stand to benefit from it. Not to mention that within the Ivory Tower, disseminating diverse topics of information to fellow scientists in other fields of study can be just as important for stimulating new ideas, seeing new ways of looking at an old problem, and opening up new collaborative avenues.
