Abstract

Social phobia is a chronic medical condition leading to enduring suffering and dysfunction. The pharmacological treatment of this condition was neglected until the mid 80's, but this trend has been more than reversed in the last decade. Among the drugs studied for the treatment of this condition beta-blockers, benzodiazepines and antidepressants have been investigated. In this review, both strengths and shortcomings of the available treatment modalities have been considered.
