Abstract

Cu metal in certain concentrations can have toxic effects that are harmful to human life and the surrounding environment. One simple and economical way that can be done to absorb Cu metal by adsorption by using porous material. This study aims to determine the optimum time and pH on the process of absorption of Cu by lignin. Cacao leather samples were obtained at Mamuju West Sulawesi, samples were first prepared and then extracted with Benzen: Ethanol. After that lignin was isolated using NaOH, then precipitated using H2SO4 to obtain pure lignin sample. The dried lignin is contacted with Cu solution at the pH and Time Variables. The results showed that pH and contact time had an effect on the amount of Cu concentration adsorbed by lignin. The more time it is contacted between Cu and lignin solution the more Cu is adsorbed by lignin. While alkaline pH will reduce the adsorbent working power of lignin, and better at acidic pH. The research can be concluded that the optimum pH on the process of absorption of Cu metal by lignin is at pH of solution 6. The optimum contact time on the process of absorption of Cu metal by lignin is at 40 minutes.
