Abstract

This study aims at presenting an overview of the modelling techniques employed for the determination of the variable material properties of Functionally Graded Materials plates and their analysis. Functionally Graded Materials have been studied as alternatives to traditional composites due to their strength, high thermal resistance and design flexibility. Due to the varying nature of properties of these materials in one or more directions (unidirectional and multi-directional FGMs), it is difficult to predict the material properties. In this review, some of the models which are used for the prediction of material properties of FGMs are discussed and their application to the analysis of functionally graded plates has been included.
