Mapping and Monitoring Bullying and Violence: Building a Safe School Climate Ron Avi Astor and Rami Benbenishty Oxford University Press, 2017 120 pages (paperback), $38.95, ISBN 978-0-19-084706-7 Reviewed by Maria Sinkule Mapping and Monitoring Bullying and Violence: Building a Safe School Climate is a guide meant to help adults make better use of time and space in order to improve students' social-emotional learning. Astor and Benbenishty describe essential components of a comprehensive monitoring system for use in schools to assess risk behaviors, school climate, victimization, student and staff outcomes, and roles of parents and staff as well as ways to analyze feedback and data collected, present the information to constituents, and address areas of concern. The major areas identified by the authors are victimization and perpetration; school climate; socialemotional learning; safety and fear in school; perceptions of school practices and policies; exposure to and engagement in risk behaviors; attitudes, knowledge, and intentions; and demographics and cultural diversity.
