Abstract
This study aimed to improve the ability to recognize letters through the jolly phonics method in children aged 4-5 years. This study uses a quantitative and qualitative combined approach with a class action research model by Kemmis & Mc Taggart. This research was conducted in two cycles, each of which consisted of three meetings. Each meeting consists of four stages, namely the planning stage, the action implementation stage, the observation phase, and the reflection stage. The subjects in this study were children aged 4-5 years, totaling 15 children. Quantitative data collection techniques are tests, and qualitative data are observation, interviews, and documentation. The technique of testing the validity of quantitative data uses source triangulation and qualitative data uses technique triangulation. Quantitative data analysis using percentage of learning completeness and qualitative with interactive model of Miles & Huberman data analysis. The percentage of completeness in the indicator mentions the name of the letter by 80%, shows the symbol of the letter by 80%, and imitates the letter 93.3%. Based on these results it can be concluded that the jolly phonics method can improve the ability to recognize letters in children aged 4-5 years
