Abstract

A Discrete Kinematic Model for 3D Deformation at Sedimentary BasinScale ? The 3D deformation of a geological layer is a new step inbasin modelling. The first kinematic models were ?pseudo-3D? ones, and were limited to the study of cases built with topologically equivalentsections. The model detailed here follows these works, and triesto enlarge the application cases. To do this, it uses a discreteapproach, and introduces two notions that deal with the area conservationof the neutral surface of each layer, and with the succession ofductile and rigid layers. The results obtained with the model arecoherent with those obtained with pseudo-3D models, and they showthe ability of the discrete approach to solve a problem with a complexgeometry. We now have to extend the model so we can use more generalboundary conditions than the one which assesses a displacement inonly one direction.
