Abstract

 Incorporates the principles of change and understanding of behavior from numerous theories  Intended to provide a systematic integration of the field of health behavior Transtheoretical Across Theories Prochaska & DiClemente (1983) • Knowledge alone does not influence behavior change • People change in incremental steps • Change is not linear – Progress/recycle/progress/recycle – View it as a spiral in which people learn from previous experience Stages of change  The Transtheoretical Model concentrates on five stages of change, ten processes of change, the pros and cons of changing (decisional balance), and self-efficacy.  Basic Foundation: Different processes should be applied at different stages.
