Abstract

—Both congestion control and Quality of Service (QoS) are important quality attributes in computer networks. Specifically, for the future Internet architecture known as Named Data Networking (NDN), solutions using hop-by-hop interest shaping have shown to cope with the traffic congestion issue. Ad-hoc techniques for implementing QoS in NDN have been proposed. In this paper, we propose a new QoS mechanism that can work on top of an existing congestion control based on interest shaping. Our solution provides four priority levels, which are assigned to packets and lead to different QoS. Simulations show that high priority applications are consistently served first, while at the same time low priority applications never starve. Results in ndnSIM simulator also demonstrate that we avoid congestion while operating at optimal throughputs.
