Abstract

Wind resource assessment is primarily a quantification process that computes specifications for any wind project at its development stage. Assessing the accuracy of the wind resource availability to be site-specific and configuring using diverse methodologies accordingly is crucial to maximize the yield. One of the pertinent techniques adopted to optimize the positioning of the wind farm for the highest yield is Micrositing. Adjustment of the turbine, calibration of the devices, terrain classification, poor generation of electrical performance and wake effect are some of the important criteria concerning the attainment of maximum yield. This paper presents the optimization of wind farm layout using the micrositing process in simple terrain at Kayathar, Tamil Nadu, India. Configuration for the proposed wind farm is similar to 5D × 7D, and the optimized layouts include linear, arc, feathered and park. It was found that the arc layout turns out to be the suitable micrositing design owing to its maximum capacity utilization factor and minimum wake loss.
