Abstract

A number of current applications of the economic valuation of the environment (EVE) are reviewed, drawing attention to some obvious gaps. Four controversial issues in the subject are discussed: the use of contingent valuation; health and the value of life; the treatment of future events; and benefit transfer. Some brief suggestions are made for improving the accept-ability of EVE to decision-makers. © 1996 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
