Abstract

This paper aims to describe the handling of the poor in terms of the concepts of social work. Reviewing the handling of the poor using the main concepts of social work as a control, whether it is done according to the value, the direction which believe by profession. The concepts are: self-help, human rights, social justice, Needs, human-in-situation, social functioning, and planned changed. Referring to these concepts, poverty management in social work carried out as follows: The poor is seen as a subject that has dignity and self-esteem just like other human beings. The poor understood in relation to the social environment, where they are located. The poor is seen as having the potential inherent in himself and in relation to the environment. Therefore, poverty management can be done by develop self- capacity and increase source systems capacity as well as defend the social justice in society. Poverty handling activity done in a planned and systematic way that involve multiple stakeholders, and carried out gradually from: Engagement, Assessment Planning, Implementation, Evaluation and Termination.
