Abstract

We investigated the efficacy and safety of three skin care products - a lotion, body cream, and hand cream, each containing OLIGOMARINE® - on a total of 26 cases with atopic dermatitis and xeroderma. OLIGOMARINE® is a cosmetic material with reduced sodium and rich in essential trace elements such as zinc and selenium extracted from sea minerals. After 8 weeks of topical application, the products were found to be safe in all cases, with the exception of one case of xeroderma who had slight itching and inflammation after using the body cream. The evaluation of the usefulness of the products was based on clinical findings, moisture level in the horny layer, and morphological observation of horny cells. The results of this study indicated that the three skin care products containing OLIGOMARINE® were quite safe in clinical application for cutaneous manifestations of dry skin and that they could improve skin symptoms and the barrier function of the stratum corneum.
