Factors in the exfoliation sydrome

Abstract

The study cohort consists of 459 subjects over 60 years of age. Intraocular pressure and degrees of exfoliation, lens changes, and pigment were recorded and their interrelationships investigated. A raised intraocular pressure was found to be associated with exfoliation, as also was increased pigmentation and the developent of lens changes. An original observation is that the exfoliated males had a significantly higher IOP than their female counterparts.
