Abstract

The concept of Emotional Intelligence has become one of the topics most analyzed by academics as well as professionals in human resources and business management. This is due to the impact it has on personal and professional achievements. The importance of having the appropriate personal and professional competences usually entails greater guarantees of success in the workplace. This article reviews this concept and details the main competency models, as well as the main theories, measuring instruments and effects that emotional intelligence can have on professional life. Finally, a set of conclusions and lines of research related to this topic are outlined
