Abstract

Comments on an article, 'Proteomic Analysis of Active Multiple Sclerosis Lesions Reveal Therapeutic Targets' by M. H. Han et al. (2008). Lack of knowledge of the pathology that underlies multiple sclerosis (MS), a chronic inflammatory neurodegenerative disease that is estimated to affect approximately one million people worldwide, has hampered the development of improved therapeutics. The authors showed that large-scale proteomic analyses of multiple sclerosis (MS) lesions (or 'plaques') in the central nervous system (CNS) are useful for the identification of new drug targets for this disease.
