Abstract

The review describes the character of the formation and course of stool retention in children, offers a classification of constipation, discusses the causes of the development of organic and functional constipation in children. A plan of the diagnostic process and recommendations for management of functional constipation are presented. Various groups of laxative drugs are reviewed. The use of combined rectal medications that promote stool softening and ease the passage of stools is recommended for therapy of functional constipation.
