Abstract

Goats were paired in all possible combinations and their behavior observed in a restricted feeding situation. Dominance was determined by the relative number of fighting acts of the various animals. The data indicate age to be a significant factor. "It is concluded that the dominance relationship is highly variable as far as degree of control is concerned, and the question is raised as to how important and effective it might be in comparison with other types of social control."
