Abstract

To study the mechanisms of gibberellin-induced seedlessenss of Delaware grapes, effects of pre-bloom gibberellin treatment on pollen germination were investigated from the standpoint of morphology and physiology.Pre-bloom treatment of gibberellin did not affect the development of pollens and their contents of amino acids, sugars and starch. However, the respiration rate and oxidative enzyme activities of pollens were much enhanced just after the treatment and then reduced markedly toward the blooming time, resulting the failure of pollen germination.
